Tell us about yourself?
I was born in Campbelltown and have lived here ever since. I am from the Yuin nation.
How did you get into music?
I’ve been singing ever since I was young. In primary school I was always performing and being asked to perform. My whole family (mum, dad, cousins, grandpa, uncles, aunties) are musicians, we all play guitar and sing. It’s tradition that whenever we have a family gathering that someone whips out a guitar and we all sing. While majority of my family are country singers, I always found inspiration from artists like Christina Aguilera. I’ve always been a solo artist and a diva; I love singing big ballads and slow moody songs.
Describe your style of music
I play guitar (I’m a rhythm guitarist) and have been for about 4 years. I also write my own music, finding inspiration from indie artists like Ed Sheeran. I prefer to sing ballads (songs by Christina Aguilera, Adele etc.) but I do enjoy softer songs like what Ed Sheeran produces.
What has been the highlight of your YBD journey so far?
So far the definite highlight of my YBD journey was the recording studio. I loved being in there for hours and just recording my music, it was such an amazing experience and I can’t wait to do that again.
What are some of your goals for the future?
I’d love to record more of my music and perform more often. I’d like to get a set repertoire with music I really like and feel that will demonstrate my true vocal abilities. I’m also thinking about pursuing musical theatre as that will combine my passion for acting as well as music. I think being a famous artist would be great (like Christina Aguilera).
The Young Black & Deadly Talent Developing Program needs your support to continue unearthing and training our next generation of music artists and music industry professionals. YB&D has previously helped to launch and nurture the careers of artists such as Casey Donovan, Shanell Dargan, and Aimee Hannan.
If you would like to support Young Black & Deadly, you can visit our Go Fund Me campaign page and make a donation. We are hoping to raise $15 000 to ensure the future delivery of the program.
Money raised will go towards the running of YBD workshops, buying new instruments, and the continued mentoring and development of our talented young stars.
