Klub Koori joins Sydney Festival’s great lineup of events in 2016, presenting special intimate performances by Aboriginal singer songwriter Joe Geia, and the band, Pirra, at the world famous Spiegeltent at Hyde Park on January 24.
Joe Geia is a renowned singer/songwriter, guitarist, didgeridoo player and influential figure in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He writes music of bravery and beauty, telling of Aboriginal life in Australia, of the quest for justice and belonging, of history, family and love. Geia is perhaps best known for his song and album of the same name ‘Yil Lull’.
Pirra are no strangers to performing live and collectively have amassed over 200 shows since 2012. Pirra were handpicked to showcase at APRA Song Summit. They’ve also performed on the festival scene with appearances at Woodford Folk Festival and Sydney Opera House’s Homeground Festival. Lead singer, Jess Beck, was a 2010 Deadly Award nominee for Most Promising New Talent in Music, and released her debut EP ‘Hometown Dress’ in 2014.
Each act will perform for approximately 30 minutes inside the Spiegeltent, which is renowned for its unique and intimate atmosphere. The concert will be hosted by talented Aboriginal musician, actor and dancer, Elaine Crombie.
