Making Tracks – Emily Nicol hosts Koori Radio’s all new arts program

For all the latest news and discussion from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts world,  tune in to Koori Radio’s ‘Making Tracks’ program, hosted by Emily Nicol every weekday from 3:00 to 6:00pm.

Featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music as well as live interviews and live in-studio performances, the program has so far featured interviews and performances from artists such as Jessica Mauboy,  Marcus Corowa and Benny Walker.

“I’ve had a passion for music and radio for a long time,” says Emily, whose father is well known Aboriginal jazz musician, Johnny Nicol.

Not only does Emily have strong musical roots, she was also a child acting star, playing the role of Chloe in iconic Aussie TV series, ‘A Country Practice’.

“I always thought I’d be working in music,’ says Emily, “even though I’m not producing, it’s great to be working within the realm of music, playing and sharing stories about new artists. When I was young I did a bit of acting, so it’s a nice kind of medium for me to be involved in. I love talking to artists and finding out about their creative processes, and how Indigenous artists are bridging the gap between traditional and modern arts as well.”

“There’s a lot of diversity in Indigenous arts that maybe the mainstream audiences aren’t aware of,” she says, “so it’s also good to show non-Indigenous Australians that side of it too.”
